Covering all types of transport on roads and rails
QBE-HKSI is one of the main insurers of transport in Hong Kong.
QBE-HKSI provides project employees’ compensation and public liability insurance to MTR, the operator of Hong Kong’s mass transit system, which carries 5.3 million passengers each weekday. We have also been the insurer of one of Hong Kong’s main bus companies, Citybus, for more than 10 years, insuring their fleet of around 1,000 buses. Up to one quarter of the registered motorcycles in Hong Kong are also insured with QBE-HKSI and we are a leading private car insurer in the territory.
Protecting the cultural hub
QBE-HKSI provides insurance support in the establishment of the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong.
The West Kowloon Cultural District is a Government-approved development site blending art, education and public space in the heart of Hong Kong. The project is being developed by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, a statutory authority established by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and will open in phases from 2015.
QBE-HKSI was selected as the insurer to provide Employees’ Compensation Insurance protection for the development of the first two funded phases. In addition, QBE-HKSI was also selected as one of the insurers to provide excess liability coverage for the project. With experience gained from similar projects such as the expansion of Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway, QBE-HKSI has the expertise to tackle the challenges of such complex construction projects.
Keeping the harbour front vibrant and safe
QBE-HKSI is the sole property insurer of the Hong Kong Observation Wheel located along the Central harbour front.
The 60-metre-tall Observation Wheel was opened to the public in the fourth quarter of 2014. It is expected to attract up to a million visitors a year, providing unobstructed views of the city and the harbour.
QBE-HKSI provides property insurance coverage for the Wheel against various perils including physical damage and business interruption from typhoons.
Providing cover for cruise terminal construction
QBE-HKSI provided cover for the employees who constructed the world-class cruise ship terminal in Hong Kong.
Located on the site of the city’s former airport runway, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal is one of the world’s most spectacular cruise ship facilities. Designed by Foster + Partners, the three-storey building features jaw-dropping views of Victoria Harbor and an impressive range of amenities. It can accommodate two mega cruise ships with a gross tonnage of up to 220,000 tonnes and clear some 3,000 passengers per hour.
QBE-HKSI provided Construction Employees’ Compensation cover for the HK$7-billion, four-year construction project, with the Terminal opening in 2013.
